Topology and dynamics
Head: Patrick Massot
Assistant: Dominique Vainqueur
Weekly seminar: Thursday afternoons
The team has three main areas of interest:
- Differential geometry and symplectic topology
- Group theory and operator algebras
- Dynamical systems and ergodic theory.
These three themes have many interactions. For example, ergodic geometry bridges the gap between geometry and dynamics. Similarly, geometric group theory interacts with differential geometry and operator algebras.
Interactions also exist with other teams. Ergodic theory and group geometry interact with the probability and statistics team. Differential geometry and the theory of holomorphic dynamical systems bridge the gap with the complex geometry components of the harmonic analysis and arithmetic, and algebraic geometry teams.
The team hosts the Inria project-team Datashape dedicated to the topological analysis of data, in particular using techniques also seen in symplectic topology.
