Research
Probability and Statistics
Head: Nathanaël Enriquez
Assistant: Jean-Christophe Barbelet (from October 1, 2022)
Weekly seminar: Thursdays at 2 pm (probability) and 3:45 pm (statistics)
The Probability and Statistics team does fundamental research in probability and statistics. It aims to encourage techniques involving randomness for modelling, particularly in connection with experimental sciences such as physics and life sciences, and for solving problems arising in the economics and industrial spheres.
Current important areas of research in probability are: random graphs and matrices, Markov processes and stochastic flows, branching and coalescence processes, statistical mechanics with integrable models and their associated continuous models, and stochastic geometry.
In statistics, statistical learning is a focus, broadly speaking (including work on fairness and sequential machine learning), as well as concentration and estimator selection, statistical modeling in biology, and reliability.
The Probability and Statistics group also hosts the Inria project-team CELESTE which studies problems at the interface of statistics and machine learning.
